COMPLETE HOME THEATER SPEAKER SYSTEM  FOR AUDIOPHILES & VIDEOPHILES !

                                    BRAND NEW FACTORY SEALED !

DAHLQUIST  Acoustix System One Dynamic Array Home Theater System.

4 Slim : DDA-1T Towers , 2 Fronts and 2 Rears !

The Acoustix design approach minimizes both bulk and footprint, with the result
that all required loudspeakers fit conveniently and unobtrusively into any room.
Each trim tower contains four long throw, 3-inch drivers, in a dynamic line array,
together with a 1-inch silk dome high frequency driver. The 3-inch driver cones
are molded of polypropylene, a material naturally suited for audiophile quality
loudspeakers. It provides an ideal combination of high stiffness-to-mass ratio and
excellent internal damping. A high compliance rubber surround and high flux
magnetic circuit further add to each driver's capabilities. The result is the ability
to respond precisely to the most  minute demand of the program material.

The high frequency driver employs a 1-inch dome of specially treated silk and a
very substantial magnetic assembly. The multiple drivers are combined
seamlessly through the computer modeled crossover network. The cabinet, with
its five sided cross section, inherently is extremely rigid.

Sleek :  DDA-1C  Matching Center Module !

The five sided DDA-1C center channel is small, unobtrusive, and fits easily on
your TV. It employs four of the long throw, 3 inch drivers and the same high
frequency driver as the towers. In sharp contrast to bulky conventional video
speakers, the trim Acoustix modules allow the focus of visual interest to remain
on the video source, as it should be, and not on the loudspeakers.

Seismic : PDQ-100.SUB Powered Subwoofer !

Completing the system is our PDQ-100 SUB, an intensely dynamic, compact
subwoofer that conforms to the design parameters of the Acoustix. "Make it
great. Keep it small." The subwoofer combines our proprietary, 100 watt,
MOS-FET output, fully featured, made in Canada amplifier, with a long throw, 8
inch poly woofer. In video mode this unit responds with thunderous bass. The
flick of a switch to audio mode and the PDQ-100 SUB delivers tight, solid bass to
 delight audiophiles.

This stylish home theatre speaker system graces our cover this time out, and as you
can see, struck me visually more as a kind of art  deco skyline than as a bunch of
speakers. When setting up the shot I had mental  visions of Chicago, or the Manhattan
Trade Centre towers, and the photographer,  conveniently, had a kind of Botticelli or
Turner canvas sky for background. It's  definitely a winter sky.

As speakers, the 4 identical towers share a diminutive footprint and very narrow
baffle, and all share the same drivers, a fabric dome tweeter, and 3 3 1/2" cones for
bass and mid-range: the centre speaker is similarly slim laterally, with 4 of the 3 1/2"
drivers flanking the same tweeter. All of these are designed to operate down to a
lower limit of 80 Hz. They are front ported, but the real bass is reproduced by the
 subwoofer.

That sub is also a ported design, a quite compact cube with its 8" driver on the
front and port and amplifier at rear. The driver has a "polypropylene
injection-moulded cone with butyl rubber surround." The amplifier is a "discrete
mosfet output stage Class AB operation" type with a "Thermally compensated bias
network" and "driver compensated EQ circuitry." It turns on and off automatically
via a signal sensor, or can be left on continuously. Amplifier power is rated at 100
watts rms, with 400 watt peak capability.

The Low Pass crossover is adjustable from 40 to 150 Hz, but with this system's
limited bass from all other speakers, should be set quite high, something I'll explore
further below. The High Pass is fixed, all frequencies below 120 Hz kept out of the
main speakers. A Video toggle switch introduces low end boost, which is also
worthy of further comment below, while a second toggle reverse phase.

This system has some inherent advantages not always seen even in matched home
theatre systems. With identical drivers all around, it should have exceptional timbre
matching of all channels. An extra midrange in the centre should provide a little
additional intelligibility from dialogue, and the tweeter height should match most
big screen TV's picture for good audio-to-video correlation. There's been some
careful ergonomic and industrial design put into this product to make it elegantly
 unobtrusive and operationally user friendly.
